November 2013 in Review

November proved to be a busy and exciting month at the EKMHA!  Thanks to all who made this a memorable month:

A series of classes were held for our local Elder Collage. The first session provided students with a tour of the facilities and a delicious ethnic meal prepared by Lois Konrad.

During the next day, students from Elder College were taken back in time with a presentation on the Mennonite story, given by Hugo and Linda Tiessen.

The third and final class for the Elder College focused on various Mennonite institutions in our area. Linda Tiessen talked to the group about the Leamington Mennonite Home, Sonya Bedel spoke about the UMEI High School, and Vic Huebert talked about the work being done at the Et Cetera Shop.  Louise Langeman told the group about Ten Thousand Villages in downtown Leamington, and Jutta Rahn spoke about the MCC Meat Canner.

Thanks to all who helped with the presentations in the Elder Collage classes! The story of the Mennonites in this area full of history and adventure, and it was good to have a chance to share it with others!

Travelogues were also presented and enjoyed by large crowds in November.  Thanks to Barb Tiessen Stephens for telling us about her visit to the Ukraine, and to Jan Jager for telling us about New Zealand. We look forward to more in the coming months!

Teen visitors from UMEI kept some seniors busy while they conducted interviews which will help them complete their curriculum.  Passing on our story is and important and enjoyable task at EKMHA, and it is good to see this generation taking interest!
