Perhaps nowhere else is the word Footprints more apt than in the case of Mennonite history on Pelee Island. For a brief time, these Mennonite families were part of the life of Pelee Island. They lived there, raised their families, sent their children to school on the island, made their living on the land and called it home.
In 2010, under the auspices of the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN), our History Association began the task of creating a virtual museum of the history of the Mennonites who lived on Pelee Island from 1925 until 1950. Walter Koop and Astrid Koop spearheaded the work by collecting most of the photographs that are now on display in the gallery. On display at the Virtual Museum you will find pictures and stories about church life, family life, farming, school, Pelee Island landmarks, and more.
