Great excitement at the Heritage Centre!

The fall 2015 issue of The Historian was published with a 1943 photo on the front page, requesting that anyone who was able to identify anyone in the photo, please let us know at the Heritage Centre.

10-year-old Irene Dyck and family wait for a train with all the belongings they could carry.

I think most anyone giving this any thought would say “fat chance!” These people pictured have all died, or if living, who knows where — in South America, Europe or Africa?

Surprisingly, in early September 2015, an individual came to the front desk at the Heritage Centre and showed me The Historian and with great excitement told me that she was on the front page, in that photo.

As it turns out, this mysterious person, namely Irene Dyck, lives on Pickwick Drive, just down from the Centre and can identify the people on the photo! Irene was then ten years old and is pictured with her relatives.

Not only was Irene excited, I could clearly see the value of The Historian and our Heritage Centre.

— Walt Koop

FYI: The Historian is published 3 times a year and all members of EKMHA receive a copy in the mail. For more information on becoming a member, please see our membership page.
