About the Voices of Essex-Kent Mennonites project:
Voices of Essex-Kent Mennonites creates a memorial and tribute to the families who first came to Essex and Kent Counties, Ontario from other countries or areas of Canada. Their lives were often hard, and we, their descendants, are always thankful that they made the difficult decision to leave their homes and relocate in this area.
By collecting and sharing photographs, stories, interviews, and artefacts, this project aims to preserve the histories of these people, and tell the stories of their lives and their families’ lives in Essex and Kent Counties.
EKMHA also hopes to record significant events in the lives of the first Mennonite settlers’ descendants such that the family histories of Essex-Kent Mennonites will continue to be preserved in real-time.
