The Mission Hall Project

Pegg's Mission Hall, Pelee Island, Ontario
Pegg’s Mission Hall, Pelee Island, Ontario. Used with permission of the Mission Hall Project

Pelee Island’s Mission Hall, fondly remembered by many as Pegg’s Mission, was built as a non-denominational church in 1911 on Pelee Island, Ontario. Built by George Pegg, he lived in the back and conducted lay services every Sunday, and invited other Islanders, including the Mennonites, to use the hall for services and celebrations until the time of his death in 1965. It has remained vacant since then.

Essex County resident Christine Palichuk has made it her mission to save the building. To learn more about her plans, please visit the project website.

There will be a fundraising event soon as well: more details on the event page. To see examples of some of the art to be auctioned, please visit this page and scroll down to view the art pieces.
