Description: 1. A roof tile from the Dietrich B. Schultz Agricultural Machinery Factory in Neuosterwick, Chortiza Colony. The factory was built between 1880 & 1885, and employed 150 persons.
2. The number"two" was originaly part of "1892", in the gable of a Mennonite house & barn in Burwalde, Chortiza Colony. One wall remains as part of a juice canning factory. As we were leaving, the foreman asked if anyone wanted the number. Immediately "Heritage Centre" came to mind.
3. An acorn from one of the few live branches remaining on the 700 year-old oak tree near the Island of Chortiza.
4. A sample of the rich topsoil from the former Jacob Thiessen estate Hochfeld, near the village of Mirolyubovka.
5. A brick from the church in Shönsee, Molotschna Colony. The church had a seating capacity of 700. After the civil war the building was turned into a granary, and then into a club.
6. A floor tile from the church in Landskrone, Molotschna Colony. It was built in 1910. Today only portions of the walls remain standing.
7. The wood for this display was salvaged during the 1983 renovation of the North Leamington United Mennonite Church.
The items were acquired on the Mennonite Heritage Cruises. Items 5 & 6 by George Schartner in 1995, and items 1,2,3, & 4 by Harold Thiessen, 1996.
